NU’s Scientific Computation Center, Antimicrobial Center, Bernard M. Gordon Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems are among NU’s 28 research institutes. Pre-med is not a major but rather an advising track for students who intend to go onto medical school. The university offers an undergraduate major in medicine, science and the humanities, which explores the history of medicine and health. It is a ten-minute subway ride from the Northeastern campus and has close research ties to the university. Northeastern is a member of the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Since Tufts has both a Medical School and a Medical Center on campus, many pre-med students are in their undergraduate programs. Tufts President Nils Y. Wessell believed students of the affiliates in the Bouvé-Boston School should be required to meet the bachelor’s degree requirements met by students enrolled in other colleges within the university. These changes ran against Bouvé-Boston’s focus on professional training throughout the students’ four years of schooling, and Tufts was unwilling to accept alternate proposals offered by Bouvé-Boston administrators. Ultimately Bouvé-Boston School leaders were unable to resolve their differences and chose to disaffiliate. In 1965, Bouvé-Boston School joined Northeastern University as an on-campus college.
