When Nell is sick at home and the Chief going off to Los Angeles for a meeting, he calls his mother to help out around the house. She shuns away Katie’s new boyfriend since he has pink hair, puts garlic on everyone because she doesn’t dorm james madison university want them to catch Nell’s sickness, and feeds the family lamb with goat’s intestines. Fed up by this, everyone forces Samantha to go to Grandpa and tell him to beg Grandma to return home and she falls head over heels for him.
The coroner’s office determined that the cause of death was most likely a combination of heart disease and diabetes. Carter was married in 1982 and divorced in 1992, then married again that same year. In 1989 and 1990, she adopted two sons, Joshua and Daniel. Carter died on January 23, 2003, at the age of 54; a coroner’s report later ruled her death was due to natural causes likely caused by heart disease and complications from diabetes. She is survived by an adult daughter, Tracy, and her two sons. Eating disorders, alcohol and drug addiction, and other health concerns plagued Carter for years.
One thing I liked about Gimme a Break is that it never had that cloying music that the other ’80s sitcoms had. I think that’s why some of the episodes still hold up. And I loved Nell’s bitchy, sarcastic comebacks to the kids. Kari Michaelsen had already asked for a reduced number of appearances in the fifth season. And Lara Jill Miller was originally fired but she ended up in 5 or 6 episodes so it was a better situation than expected.
