Gardner-Webb University Graduate Programs

Dr. Gregory Davenport, a physician assistant with a doctorate in health science, is the newly hired dean and program director. The mission of the Marietta College Physician Assistant Program is to help meet the need for qualified health care providers. The program accomplishes this by selecting individuals who have the academic, clinical and interpersonal aptitudes necessary for education as physician assistants. Our students begin the program in January and spend 16 months in the didactic phase followed by 12 months in the clinical phase . Our didactic curriculum uses a traditional classroom setting augmented with problem- and team-based learning modules and hands-on skills training.

We prefer that all prerequisite courses be taken at a four-year institution. We encourage students to have taken anatomy and physiology within two years of the program application date; however, this is not a requirement. The standard graduate tuition does not apply to students who matriculate into the GWU Department of Physician Assistant Studies. The class sizes for our PA program are smaller, and our admissions process is more selective. Graduate with the education to treat patients and enable them to meet the life-long challenges inherent in the practice of medicine. Others washed the feet of the local homeless to prepare them for desperately needed medical examinations. All of the students in Gardner-Webb University’s first Physician Assistant Studies program class experienced healthcare education through an intensive rotation of clinical training and a robust didactic curriculum. The class of 22 students became Gardner-Webb’s first Master of Physician Assistant Studies graduates during the University’s commencement ceremony on May 6.

During the 2020 PA Week, the class of 2022 organized a virtual 5k in honor of Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. The cohort was able to raise $1600 for the children’s hospital and collected toys that were delivered to the hospital by several students. Without the support of our community, family, and friends, this fundraiser would not have been possible. The class of 2021 received their white coats via a drive-thru event in June 2020 before they began their clinical rotations.
