Keep in mind that while these ingredients are harmful to some, other users may find them perfectly safe. The newest addition to the Prose Hair Care fam is the Hair Oil! I’ll have to admit, this bottle has it’s own shelf on my hair product wall in our office because it’s so luxuriously beautiful!
All of their products are free from parabens, dyes, sulfates, and other controversial or artificial ingredients. Loaded with curl-defining polymers (remember those from middle school science class?) and nourishing oils, my curl cream took a little trial and error to get used to. Hoping to make the most of the moderately sized bottle, I didn’t want to waste any pumps. But over time I landed on the sweet spot of about three pumps to adequately coat my curls.
Hair Oil works to repair split ends and improve hair texture by adding moisture and nourishment, all while renewing lifeless looking strands. You may not realize it, but your hair suffers extreme damage from blow drying, flat irons, and other heat tools. If I had to describe my hair, words like dry, damaged, and dull are the first I think of.
Even with just one use, my hair was manageable and free of unwanted frizz, which was so refreshing in comparison to the previous hair system that I was just settling for. When I first received my routine (shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner), I was a little concerned about the size of the bottles. They are smaller than I’m used to, so I was worried I would have to order more frequently, but after my first wash, I knew that wasn’t going to be an issue. I have tried other brands with clean ingredients in the past, and I had a hard time getting enough suds, which led to me going back in for more product. My Prose shampoo starts to sud right away, so I don’t have to use nearly as much to feel like my hair is actually clean—a total win in my book. In the 10 years I’ve been wearing my hair naturally curly, I have always, always styled with a strong hold gel.
Depending on your hair concerns, your hair goals, and even the climate you live in, there are plenty of factors that should be taken into account when developing your be-all-end-all hair care system. And while we’re ready to take protective hairstyles to sleep in our hair efforts to the next level, we simply don’t have the time or energy to curate it ourselves. So when we had the opportunity to give Prose a go with the intention to have more good hair days, we jumped in head hair first.
First and foremost, Function of Beauty provided the largest shampoo and conditioner bottles among the three brands, which is a nice gesture considering you’re paying for more than $5 shampoo. However, quantity doesn’t always mean quality and, unfortunately, I felt like Function of Beauty didn’t live up to all the hype. But, how disappointing is it to run through the gamut of top brands, only to be left disappointed after your shower?
