Diana Schnaidt Describes Her Long Road to Competing in the 2022 Chicago Pro

Valliere opted not to compete this weekend after earning his Olympia qualification after getting the victory in Vancouver. Aiming to capture his invitation to Olympia this winter, Vaillant will be tasked with facing a tough lineup of competitors. In 1980, Schwarzenegger came out of retirement to win the Olympia yet again, after a five-year hiatus. Schwarzenegger (who was supposedly training for his “Conan” movie) had been a late entry into the competition, and his competitors did not know of his intentions to compete. This seventh victory was especially controversial, as most fellow competitors and observers felt that he lacked both muscle mass and conditioning, and shouldn’t have won over Chris Dickerson or Mike Mentzer.

She reported that her upper body training never changed in spite of the injury, and even though she can’t squat or do lunges, she has found ways to train her legs with cable and machine work. Regardless of how she has to train, nothing is keeping her from being onstage for this show. Her best finish came in 2017 when she placed second to Autumn Swansen.

In 2020 Phil Heath returned to try to win a record-tying eighth title, but Big Ramy won the Olympia for his first title. The 1967 Mr. Olympia, won by Sergio Oliva, heralded a new era in bodybuilding competition. The record number of wins is eight each by Lee Haney (1984–1991) and Ronnie Coleman (1998–2005).

Taking first place in the 2021 OCB competition led Hamptonfurr to his professional debut on Aug. 13, 2022. He was one of 12 athletes who showcased extreme discipline, self-control, and dedication to health and fitness at the 2022 OCB Presidential Cup in Maryland. It’s almost show time – men and women line up against the walls backstage, fine-tuning their poses and perfecting their physiques with liquid tanning products.

The 2020 and 2021 contests were held in Atlanta, GA, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Illinois regulations forcing the contest to move. Battling Tommy on stage this weekend was Jonathan T. Pelkey. His balanced physique and impressive mid-section are qualities that have always made him a threat at any show. He placed eighth last year at the 2021 Chicago Pro and was eager to improve that placing. In the end, Jonathan T. Pelkey got redemption for last year and won the title at the 2022 Chicago Pro.

That dream is what has propelled her throughout the year so far. While she had to struggle with the physical toll of the injury, the Ukranian athlete that now calls New York home was faced with more adversity – the Ukraine/Russia crisis that started in early 2022. Diana Schnaidt has family in both Ukraine and Russia, and they are torn over the war. Several family members, including her parents, sister, her sister’s husband, and her nephew are all in Ukraine trying to stay safe as the fight continues for her homeland.

However, the year didn’t start out on the right foot to say the least. The IFBB Professional League also has the discretion ring girl salary to extend special invitations to other competitors. Mandatory athlete check-in for height and/or weight verification.
